The Pontyscyttle aqueduct which carries the Llangollen canal & towpath 1000 feet over the River Dee 120 feet below in a narrow iron trough and is both the longest & highest navigable aqueduct in the world.
The lady's pool is a particularly broad stretch of the Kennet and Avon canal designed to look like a lake and forms part of our Kennet and Avon Walk.
The partially restored Lancaster follows an interesting route into the Lake District & passes close to the sea as it provides excellent views of the Cumbrian hills.
The first day gives the option to visit the mediaeval splendour of Little Moreton Hall. The hall is a 15th century half timbered manor house. The weight of the Great Hall on it's top floor means that the lower floors are bent out of shape. If yo7u are feeling energetic you can also climb the hill to Mow Cop castle a folly sitting high on a ridge above the canal and providing extensive views of the Cheshire plain.
The route travels north from the market town of Congleton. To route to the east is framed by the Peak District hills. Look out for the Mow Cop castle and The Cloud the most prominent of the peaks.
You pass through Macclesfield and Bollington to Marple before joining the Peak District canal which sits high on the side of the Goyt valley giving expansive views of the surrounding hills.
